WHY PARTICIPATE?

ABOUT #BTW2024

"Development of Domestic Tourism".

This guide concerns the 1st Tourism Week in Burundi scheduled from December 11th to 14th, 2024. TOURISM WEEK, 2024 edition takes place from December 11th to 14th, in Bujumbura. This year's theme is "Development of Domestic Tourism". It is a societal celebration that aims to celebrate and highlight tourism, a key sector of the economy. The Ministry of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism and the Burundi Tourism Promotion and Development Agency have chosen this theme because they want to make tourism a pillar of growth and diversification of the country's economy. In our country, there is no shortage of assets.

Vision and Objectives

The Burundi Tourism Week seeks to:

Inspire stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism sectors to pursue excellence in their efforts to promote domestic, regional and continental tourism. (This can be achieved by) providing a platform that showcases the tourist destination “Burundi” through exhibitions, discussions and collaborative opportunities. Furthermore, create an avenue for networking that celebrates the achievements of the tourism sector while setting an ambitious agenda for future growth. Recognize organizations and institutions that have made significant contributions to the resilience and recovery of the tourism sector, particularly during challenging times. However, it is essential to promote sustainable tourism by emphasizing domestic tourism and regional packages that foster responsible and eco-conscious travel, because this approach not only benefits the environment but also enhances the overall travel experience.

Why You Should Join

Showcase Your Brand: Present your offerings (products and services) to an engaged audience, which includes local residents, regional tourists and international investors. Expand Your Network: Connect with policymakers, hospitality professionals, investors and tourism operators to forge meaningful relationships and business prospects. Celebrate Excellence: The event will culminate in a prestigious Burundi Tourism Awards gala, intended to recognize exceptional contributions to the sector. Contribute to Industry Recovery: Participate in a collective effort to rebuild and strengthen tourism in a resilient (and sustainable) manner post-pandemic. Attract Investment: Leverage the event’s exposure to draw investment opportunities and partners for expanding tourism infrastructure, products and services. Support Sustainable Tourism: Advocate for responsible and sustainable tourism practices that not only promote Burundi as a destination, but also ensure its cultural, natural and economic heritage is preserved for the future. However, this requires a commitment from all stakeholders.

BACKGROUND

Burundi Tourism Week represents an annual flagship event (highly anticipated) that is devoted to celebrating, inspiring and advancing the tourism and hospitality sectors within Burundi, the East African region and indeed, across the continent. This event unites various industry stakeholders, including policymakers, investors and the public, to acknowledge the progress achieved in tourism; foster collaboration; and collectively elevate the overall tourism experience.

Why participate in Burundi Tourism Week 2024? The inaugural Burundi Tourism Week 2024 seeks to be more than merely a showcase of tourism products and services; it is a vital platform for reconnecting, rebuilding and innovating within the industry. The COVID-19 pandemic (which affected global tourism significantly) has left a lasting impact and in Burundi—after the country reopened its doors in October 2021—the industry began its journey toward recovery. Burundi Tourism Week serves as a pivotal step in this recovery process, offering a dynamic space for discussion, showcasing resilience and rethinking how tourism must evolve in a post-pandemic world.

Scheduled from the 11th to the 14th of December 2024, this four-day event (which promises to be quite engaging) will encompass exhibitions, panels, workshops, a networking gala and the Burundi Tourism Awards. Over 300 tourism and hospitality operators are anticipated to attend (this includes) stakeholders from Burundi, regional partners and international representatives. The event aims to provide an incredible opportunity to work towards a shift in mindset among traders and consumers; however, this shift is crucial for ensuring fluid and seamless integration in national, regional and continental tourism activities. Although the number of attendees is significant, the impact of their collaboration is even more paramount because it can lead to transformative changes in the industry.
